The sample is infused from the syringe pump into the API source. You use this technique to calibrate the MS and infuse samples. Before you perform this procedure, set up the syringe in the syringe pump as described in Syringe and syringe pump setup.

Set up H-ESI direct infusion

If you are going to calibrate the MS, take care to avoid contaminating the calibration solution.

IMPORTANT

Nitrile gloves are made with diphenylguanidine, which is soluble in EMRS. If diphenylguanidine contaminates the calibration solution, the solution’s spectrum will include a peak at m/z 212.

Do not touch the tip of the needle or the ends of the transfer line tubing while you are filling the syringe, setting up the syringe pump, connecting the syringe to the transfer line, or connecting the transfer line to the grounding union.

Procedure

  1. Fill the syringe with sample and connect it to the syringe union as described in Syringe and syringe pump setup.
  2. Insert the grounding union into the grounding union holder.
  3. Use two natural PEEK fingertight fittings and a length of red PEEK tubing to connect the syringe union to the grounding union.
  4. Use a Viper PEEK capillary to connect the grounding union to the H-ESI spray insert.

NOTE

Use Viper fittings on the natural-colored PEEK tubing. Use PEEK fittings to connect one end of the red PEEK tubing to the syringe union and the other end of the tubing to the right side of the grounding union.

Procedure

  1. Place sample in the syringe. The syringe pump is not shown.
  2. Insert the grounding union into the grounding union holder.
  3. Use natural PEEK tubing and Viper fittings to connect the grounding union to the H-ESI spray insert.
  4. Use PEEK fingertight fittings to connect a length of red PEEK tubing between the syringe union and the grounding union. This is the infusion line.
