You must remove the API source interface so that you can remove and clean the lenses and the multipole.

CAUTION

To avoid an electric shock, be sure to follow the instructions in Shut down the MS system completely for planned service or storage before you start this procedure.

Procedure

  1. Shut down and vent the mass spectrometer as described in Shut down the MS system completely for planned service or storage.
  2. Let the API source housing cool to room temperature.
  3. Venting the MS can take several minutes.
  4. CAUTION

    Hot surface

The external surface of the spray insert, housing, and entry to the ion transfer tube can become hot enough to burn your skin. Before you touch or remove heated parts, allow the part to cool to room temperature (approximately 20 minutes) before you touch it.

  5. Unplug the mass spectrometer’s power supply cord from the laboratory electrical outlet.
  6. CAUTION

Do not disconnect the power supply cord from the MS while the other end is still plugged into the electrical outlet.

  7. Remove the API source housing. Refer to the ion source guide.
  8. Remove the API source interface as follows:
  9. Lift up the release latch and firmly push it to unseal the API source interface from the vacuum manifold.
  10. Grasp the API source interface with your fingers, and then carefully pull it out of the vacuum manifold.
  11. API source interface removed from the vacuum manifold

  12. Go to the appropriate procedure to remove the components from the API source interface:
  13. For all TSQ Series II mass spectrometers (excluding the TSQ Fortis Plus and TSQ Fortis), go to Remove the MP00 assembly, the RF lens, and the exit lens from the source interface cage.
  14. For the TSQ Fortis Plus and TSQ Fortis, go to Remove the MP00 assembly, the skimmer, and the tube lens.
