Chemicals can accumulate on the surfaces of the API source interface lenses and the MP00 multipole. These components require cleaning less often than the ion sweep cone and the ion transfer tube. How frequently you clean these components depends on the type and quantity of the compounds that you analyze. To clean these components, you must first vent the system, remove the components from the MS, and then remove the lenses from the source interface cage.

Internal components of the API source interface by model

Model

Internal API source components that require maintenance

All TSQ models
(excluding the TSQ Fortis Plus and TSQ Fortis)

Exit lens, MP00 multipole, L0 lens, and the RF lens

TSQ Fortis Plus and TSQ Fortis

Skimmer and tube lens (MSIG), MP00 multipole, and L0 lens

IMPORTANT

Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends wearing nitrile or powder-free gloves for cleaning the API source.

To clean the lenses and the MP00 multipole, follow these procedures in order:

Procedure

  1. Vent the MS and remove the API source interface
  2. Remove the lenses from the source interface cage by following the applicable procedure:
  3. For all TSQ Series II mass spectrometers (excluding the TSQ Fortis Plus and TSQ Fortis), go to Remove the MP00 assembly, the RF lens, and the exit lens from the source interface cage.
  4. For the TSQ Fortis Plus and TSQ Fortis, go to Remove the MP00 assembly, the skimmer, and the tube lens.
  5. Clean the lenses
  6. Clean the MP00 multipole
  7. Reinstall the components of the API source interface cage
  8. Reinstall the API source interface cage
