The ion sweep cone fits snugly over the spray cone. To clean the inner and outer surfaces of the ion sweep cone, you must remove it from the MS.

Procedure

  1. Remove the API source housing as described in Maintain the API source housing.
  2. Grasp the outer ridges of the sweep cone and pull it off the API source interface. If necessary, loosen the screws on the ion sweep cone with a flat-head screwdriver.

  3. CAUTION

    • Make sure that you do not accidentally lift the release lever that is located above the sweep cone, as releasing the lever will vent the MS.
    • To avoid contaminating the ion transfer tube, do not touch its exposed entrance.
