Procedure

1. Remove the sweep cone and the ion transfer tube. See Remove the ion sweep cone and Remove the ion transfer tube.
2. Soak a lint-free tissue or a chamois-tipped swab in a 50:50 solution of methanol/water, and then clean the exterior surface of the spray cone.

3. If you see a leak at the seal, do the following:
1. Remove and inspect the seal located in the spray cone under the entrance end of the ion transfer tube.
2. Clean the seal with a wipe with methanol or replace the seal, if necessary.
3. Using a magnification device, inspect the components for any residual lint or particulates.

4. NOTE

   Inspect the inside surfaces and edges for the presence of lint or particulates. If present, use plastic tweezers or a similar tool to remove them.

4. Reinstall the seal in the spray cone.
