CAUTION
Never bypass the grounding union when connecting the LC system to the ion source. Bypassing the grounding union creates an electric shock hazard to the user and other connected devices.
Procedure
- Use the appropriate fitting to connect the solvent line from the LC system or the syringe pump to the grounding union.
- After you connect the solvent line to the grounding union, check for leaks at each of the tubing connections before you place the system in On mode.
- Refer to the ion source user guide for more information, if needed.
CAUTION
If liquid is leaking out of a tube or a fitting, the components and liquid might be electrically conductive and could cause an electric shock when touched.
Turn off the voltages to the ion source housing by setting the instrument to Standby mode before wiping up a small leak from the plumbing connections to the ion source.
Connection to the H-ESI or the low-flow H-ESI source No. Description No. Description 1
Connection between the LC system or the syringe and the H-ESI or low-flow
3
H-ESI or low-flow H-ESI spray insert
2
Grounding union holder
4
A PEEK Viper capillary connects the H-ESI spray insert to the grounding
NOTE
The connection between the LC system or the syringe and the H-ESI or low-flow H-ESI source can be as follows:
- For standard flow applications, use a Viper capillary or a length of Red PEEK tubing and two natural PEEK fingertight fittings to connect the LC system or the syringe to the grounding union.
- For nanoflow applications, use a nanoViper capillary.
