There are different ways that you can turn off some or all of the mass spectrometer components:

  • Place the mass spectrometer in Standby mode. Standby is the normal condition to leave the mass spectrometer in when it is not in use.
  • Place the mass spectrometer in Off mode. Off mode is similar to standby, except all high voltage components of the mass spectrometer and the ion gauge are turned off.
  • Turn on the mass spectrometer by placing it in On mode.
  • Place the Electronics service switch in the Service Mode position. The Electronics service switch turns off all components in the mass spectrometer other than the +24 V power supply, forepump, turbomolecular pump, and fans.
  • Place the Main Power circuit breaker switch in the Off position. Placing the Main Power circuit breaker switch in the Off position removes all power to the mass spectrometer, including the vacuum system.

The following table summarizes the on/off status of MS components, voltages, and API gas flows.
