Place the MS in Standby mode if you are not going to use it for short periods of time.

Procedure

Open the Tune application by doing one of the following:
From the Windows taskbar, navigate to Start > Thermo Instruments > model Tune.
–or–
From the Windows desktop, select Tune .
If your LC/MS system includes a liquid chromatograph system, turn off the mobile phase flow to the API source.
In the Tune window, select System Standby to place the MS in Standby mode.
The two bars in the System Standby icon change from white to green, and the System LED on the front panel of the MS turns yellow.

To keep the API source clean, the MS reduces the auxiliary and sheath gas flows to their standby default settings (2 arbitrary). The MS turns off the electron multiplier, conversion dynodes, 8 kV power to the API source, main RF voltage, and ion optic RF voltages.
