The ion detection system includes a high-energy conversion dynode, a discrete dynode electron multiplier, and an electrometer circuit board. The electron multiplier is set to a gain of about 1 × 105 (that is, for each ion or electron that enters, 1 × 105 electrons exit) in MS mode and 1 × 106 in MS/MS mode. The electrometer circuit board converts the current that leaves the electron multiplier through the anode to a voltage, and the data system converts the voltage into the ions per second value.
