The API source forms gas phase sample ions from sample molecules that are contained in solution. The API source also serves as the interface between the LC and the MS. You can use the ion source that comes with your TSQ Series II mass spectrometer to use the heated electrospray ionization technique (H-ESI).
NOTE
For information about all the compatible ion sources for your instrument, see Compatible ion sources.
To run the mass spectrometer in the APCI mode or the APPI mode with the OptaMax NG ion source, you must order additional kits. Refer to the OptaMax NG Ion Source User Guide for ordering information.
The optional Thermo Scientific VeriSpray PaperSpray ion source that is compatible with the TSQ Series II mass spectrometers does not use an external LC system and autosampler to introduce sample into the ion source.
The MS has a built-in drain at the front of the system that routes the solvent waste from the API source to the solvent waste container connected to the left-side drain/waste port. For information about the solvent waste connection, refer to the Getting Connected Guide for your mass spectrometer.
The TSQ Endura MS shipped with the EASY-Max NG™ ion source, and the TSQ Quantiva MS shipped with the Ion Max NG™ ion source. The Ion Max NG ion source has an additional feature for adjusting the depth of the spray insert that the EASY-Max NG ion source lacks.
