The forepump creates the vacuum necessary to properly operate the turbomolecular pump. It also evacuates the ion transfer tube region of the vacuum manifold. The turbomolecular pump controls the vacuum for the vacuum regions. It also sends status information, such as temperature or rotational speed, to the data system computer.
Forepump requirements
- The following TSQ Series II mass spectrometers (which use a transfer tube with a narrow bore) need one external forepump each:
- TSQ Fortis Plus MS
- TSQ Fortis MS
- TSQ Quantis Plus MS
- TSQ Quantis MS
- TSQ Endura MS
- The following TSQ Series II mass spectrometers (which use a high-capacity transfer tube with an elongated bore) need two external oil forepumps or one external dry pump each:
- TSQ Altis Plus MS
- TSQ Altis MS
- TSQ Quantiva MS
NOTE
Dry pumps are an option for the TSQ Series mass spectrometers. The dry pumps are Leybold EcoDry 65 Plus vacuum pumps and Edwards nXL110i vacuum pumps. The oil pumps are Leybold model SV65BIFC vacuum pumps.
