The TSQ Series II product line includes the following models listed in order of their release from the first generation to the third generation (most current):

  • TSQ Altis Plus, TSQ Quantis Plus, and TSQ Fortis Plus (third generation)
  • TSQ Altis, TSQ Quantis, and TSQ Fortis (second generation)
  • TSQ Endura and TSQ Quantiva (first generation)

NOTE

The TSQ Series II instrument control software supports all the TSQ Series II models (General Laboratory Equipment (GLE) models only).

TSQ Altis Plus, TSQ Quantis Plus, and TSQ Fortis Plus (Third generation)

The primary improvements in the latest generation of mass spectrometers versus the previous generation include the following:

  • Lower mass drift in the MS provided by its improved Q-cap quadrupole mass analyzer (TSQ Altis Plus only)
  • Faster polarity switching (5 ms)
  • Improved turbomolecular pump with increased reliability
  • New collision cell that provides broad m/z transmission

TSQ Altis, TSQ Quantis, and TSQ Fortis (Second generation)

The primary improvements in these models versus the first generation include the following:

  • All three of these models use the OptaMax™ NG API source, which is APCI ready. In addition, all three models have segmented quadrupoles with hyperbolic surfaces and an enhanced dual-mode electron multiplier detector.
  • The TSQ Altis MS includes a high-capacity ion transfer tube (HCTT) and an electrodynamic ion funnel (EDIF) RF lens, both of which increase the ion flux.
  • The TSQ Quantis MS includes a narrow-bore ion transfer tube and a stacked ring ion guide (SRIG) RF lens.
  • The TSQ Fortis MS includes a narrow-bore ion transfer tube. Instead of an RF lens, a Matrix Separator Ion Guide (MSIG) focuses the expanding ion plume as it exits the ion transfer tube. The MSIG consists of a skimmer and a tube lens.

(TSQ Endura and TSQ Quantiva) (First generation)

Thermo Fisher Scientific has discontinued the TSQ Endura MS and TSQ Quantiva MS.

  • The TSQ Endura MS and the TSQ Quantiva MS shipped with an external syringe pump and an external divert/inject valve (not shown in the following figure).
  • The TSQ Quantiva MS shipped with the Thermo Scientific Ion Max NG™ API source and two oil-sealed rotary vane forepumps.
  • The TSQ Endura MS shipped with the Thermo Scientific EASY-Max NG™ API source and one oil-sealed rotary vane forepump.

The components of the API source interface for these two mass spectrometers differ as follows:

  • The TSQ Quantiva MS has a high-capacity ion transfer tube (HCTT) and an electrodynamic ion funnel (EDIF) RF lens.
  • The TSQ Endura MS has a narrow-bore ion transfer tube and a stacked-ring ion guide (SRIG) RF lens.
