Chemicals can accumulate on the surfaces of the API source interface lenses and the MP00 RF rod assembly. However, the use of an RF lens that incorporates an RF electric field minimizes the harmful effects of this contamination. These components require cleaning less often than the external components of the API source interface (ion sweep cone, ion transfer tube, and spray cone). How frequently you clean the internal components depends on the type and quantity of the compounds that are analyzed. To clean the internal components, you must first vent the system, remove the components from the MS, and then remove the lenses from the API source interface cage.

NOTE

No tools are required to remove the API source interface and its internal components, except for the L0 lens which requires a special tool.

 

Follow these procedures to clean the RF lens, Exit lens, MP00 RF rods, and L0 lens:
