Reinstall the ion transfer tube after you have cleaned it, replaced it, or removed it to access other components of the API source interface.

IMPORTANT

Do not bend the ion transfer tube upon insertion; rotating the ion transfer tube as you insert it can help push the ion transfer tube past the vent-prevent ball.

Prerequisites

  1. Verify that the API source interface is cooled to room temperature.
  2. Put on a new pair of powder-free gloves.

Procedure

  1. Insert the ion transfer tube at a 0 degree angle into the API source interface while rotating the ion transfer tube to gently push the vent-prevent ball upwards and out of the way.

  2. NOTE

    As you insert the ion transfer tube, you will feel a slight resistance from the vent-prevent ball. After the vent-prevent ball is pushed upwards and out of the way, the system vacuum draws the ion transfer tube further into the API source housing.

  3. Align the ion transfer tube’s pin with the slot in the API source interface.
  4. Use the flat end of the ion transfer tube removal tool to rotate the ion transfer tube by a 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction to secure it.
