The spray cone user maintenance is limited to cleaning its external surface. You do not need to remove the spray cone. Additionally, inspect and clean the ion transfer tube O-ring or replace it as needed.
The following figure shows the spray cone with the ion transfer tube O-ring, ion transfer tube, and ion sweep cone removed.
No. | Description | No. | Description |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Spray cone | 3 | Ion transfer tube |
2 | Ion transfer tube O-ring | 4 | Ion sweep cone |
Prerequisites
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a lab coat, safety glasses, and chemical resistant gloves.
- Remove the Ion Sweep Cone
- Remove the Ion Transfer Tube
Procedure
- Soak a lint-free tissue or chamois-tipped swab in a 50:50 solution of methanol-water, and then clean the exterior surface of the spray cone.
- Using a magnification device, inspect the spray cone for residual lint or particulates.
- If present, use plastic tweezers or a similar tool to remove them.
- Remove and inspect the ion transfer tube O-ring located at the spray cone entrance. Clean it with methanol or replace it if necessary.
IMPORTANT
Be careful not to drop or damage the O-ring during the removal or installation.
