IMPORTANT
Review the following guidelines before you begin the maintenance procedures.
- Prepare the necessary tools, supplies, and replacement parts before you begin the maintenance procedure.
- Prepare a clean work surface for the placement of the removed components. Cover the area with lint-free wipes or aluminum foil.
- Shut down the MS completely or place it in Standby mode before you begin the maintenance procedure. For details, see System Startup, Shutdown, and Reset.
- Always wear a new pair of gloves (lint and powder free) when handling internal components. Put on a new pair before starting each removal, cleaning, and reinstallation procedure. Do not reuse gloves to avoid contaminating clean parts.
- Do not scratch the surface of the API source interface components. Scratches can affect performance if they are close to the ion transmission path. Avoid using tools, such as metal pliers that might scratch these components.
- Do not use nitric acid to clean metal parts, doing so may cause corrosion.
- Do not overtighten screws or use excessive force to reassemble components.
