CAUTION

Risk of electric shock

  • Do not bypass the metal grounding union when connecting the LC system to the API source. Bypassing the grounding union creates an electric shock hazard to the user and other connected devices.
  • If you observe a liquid leak from the tubing or fitting, turn off the voltages to the API source housing by setting the instrument to Standby mode before you troubleshoot the leak. The components and liquid might be electrically conductive and could cause an electric shock when touched.

Procedure

  1. Insert a metal grounding union into the grounding union holder.
  2. CAUTION

    Risk of electric shock

To prevent electric shock, verify that the grounding union is made of stainless steel metal. A grounding union made of a nonconductive material, such as PEEK, creates an electric shock hazard.

  3. Connect a sample loop to the divert/inject valve (port 1 and port 4).
  4. Connect a needle port (loop filler) to the divert/inject valve (port 2).
  5. Connect Teflon tubing to the divert/inject valve (port 3) using a Rheodyne fitting. Then, connect the remaining end into an appropriate waste container.
  6. Connect red PEEK tubing from the LC pump’s outlet to the divert/inject valve (port 5) using a one-piece fingertight fitting.
  7. Connect red PEEK tubing to the divert/ inject valve (port 6) using a one-piece fingertight fitting. Then, connect the remaining end to the metal grounding union using a two-piece fingertight fitting.
  8. Connect red PEEK tubing between the metal grounding union using a two-piece fingertight fitting and the H-ESI spray insert's sample inlet using a one piece fingertight fitting.
  9. Load a clean syringe with the sample solution and carefully insert it into the needle port.
  10. NOTE

To perform a manual loop injection, slowly press the syringe plunger.
