The MS requires ultra-high-purity (UHP) and high-purity (HP) supply gases for optimal performance. Ensure that the laboratory site meets the gas requirements as listed in the following table.

NOTE

The consumption values are approximate when operating 24 hours and 7 days a week.

Gas type

Requirement

UHP Helium

  • Recommended purity: UHP (99.999%) with less than 2.0 ppm each of water, oxygen, and total hydrocarbons
  • Required pressure: 275 ±70 kPa (40 ±10 psi)
  • Typical daily consumption: 4.6 L (0.162 ft3)
  • Tubing provided: Pre-cleaned copper, 4.6 m (15 ft), 1/8 in. OD
  • Function: Linear ion trap damping gas and collision gas

NOTE If you intend to use helium gas for sparging LC solvents, you must have a second tank and regulator.

UHP Nitrogen

  • Recommended purity: UHP (99.999%) with less than 3.0 ppm each of water, oxygen, and total hydrocarbons
  • Required pressure: 517 ±207 kPa (75 ±30 psi)
  • Typical daily consumption: 46 L (1.62 ft3)
  • Tubing provided: pre-cleaned copper, 4.6 m (15 ft), 1/8 in. OD
  • Function: Ion concentrating routing multipole (ICRM) collision gas

HP Nitrogen

  • Recommended purity: HP (99.0%)
  • Required pressure: 690 ±140 kPa (100 ±20 psi)
  • Typical daily consumption: 11,500–26,700 L (406–943 ft3)
  • Tubing provided: Teflon™ PFA, 4.6 m (15 ft), 1/4 in. OD
  • Function: API source auxiliary gas, sheath gas, and sweep gas

NOTE If your system includes the optional FAIMS Pro Duo or FAIMS Pro interfaces, you can use a Tee union to connect to the HP Nitrogen gas line. A Tee union is provided with the FAIMS interfaces.
