CAUTION

Sharp object

The syringe needle can puncture your skin. Handle it with care.

IMPORTANT

To minimize the possibility of cross-contamination, do the following:

  • Use a dedicated syringe and length of PEEK tubing for each type of solution.
  • Wipe off the needle tip with a clean, lint-free tissue before reinserting the syringe into the syringe adapter assembly.

The following figure shows the syringe setup with the proper adjustment of the safety collar.

Procedure

  1. Load a clean, 500 μL syringe with your sample solution.
  2. Connect 4 cm (1.5 in.) of Teflon™ tubing to the LC union using a two-piece fingertight fitting.
  3. Hold the syringe plunger in place and carefully insert the tip of the syringe needle into the open end of the Teflon tubing.
  4. Place the syringe on the syringe-holder block channel and secure it with the syringe clamp.
  5. Depress the syringe plunger until it reaches the bottom of the syringe barrel.
  6. Press and hold the pusher block release button, then move the pusher block until it gently touches the top of the syringe plunger.
  7. Use the embedded safety hex tool (located on the back left corner of the syringe pump housing) to loosen the safety collar hex screw, then position the collar against the pusher block.
  8. Tighten the safety collar hex screw when the collar is in the correct position.
  9. NOTE

In the correct position, the safety collar helps protect the integrity of the syringe by preventing the pusher block from pushing on a fully depressed plunger.

TIP

Anytime you remove the syringe needle from the Teflon tubing, always loosen the fingertight fitting first to avoid strain on the needle tip during removal.
