The MS contains a dual-cell, two-dimensional linear ion trap (LIT) mass analyzer. The LIT consists of a front trap lens (TL1), a high pressure cell, a center trap lens (TL2), a low pressure cell (analytical trap), and a back trap lens (TL3). The front, center, and back trap lenses are metal plates with a circular hole in the center through which the ion beam passes. These trap lenses provide conductance limits.

The mass analyzer cell is comprised of an array of four hyperbolic rods arranged around a central axis. The rods are segmented into three sections and have narrow slits for ion ejection. Ions are ejected only through slots in the X-rods during scan-out.
