Thermo Scientific mass spectrometry applications, such as the Xcalibur data system, can control a connected external device such as an autosampler. You must verify that the correct start (trigger) instrument is selected in the Xcalibur sequence setup before running an instrument method to acquire data.
- If the data system can control the external device (typically an autosampler), it is automatically selected as the default start (trigger) instrument for the sequence run.
- If the data system cannot control the external device or if one is not configured, the MS is automatically selected as the default start (trigger) instrument for a sequence run.
IMPORTANT
The MS should not be selected as the start instrument in an LC/MS configuration. Therefore, it is important to verify that the appropriate start instrument is selected.
Procedure
- Launch the Xcalibur data system and select Sequence Setup to open the sequence setup window.
- Open the sequence that you want to run as follows:
- Select the Open
icon and browse to the appropriate folder.
- Select the sequence file (.sld) and select Open.
- From the top menu bar, select Actions → Run This Sample or Actions → Run Sequence.
- The Run Sequence dialog box appears.
- In the Run Sequence dialog box, select Change Instruments to change the start instrument to another device as follows:
- The Change Instruments In Use dialog box appears.
NOTE
The Change Instruments In Use dialog box appears automatically if the sequence setup is launched for the first time.
Figure Change Instruments In Use dialog box - In the In Use column, select the checkbox to the right of any instrument that is configured (typically the MS and an autosampler).
- In the Start Instrument column, select the checkbox to the right of the appropriate triggering device (typically an autosampler).
- Select OK to save the changes.
- Make any remaining selections in the Run Sequence dialog box, as applicable.
- Select OK to save the changes.
