Remove the API source from the MS to access the ion sweep cone, ion source interface, ion transfer tube, and either the internal APCI corona needle (APCI-configured source) or the internal APPI lamp (APPI-configured source).

CAUTION

Hot surface

Avoid touching the API source housing when the MS is in operation. The API source housing, its components, and the ion transfer tube can be very hot and cause severe burns if touched. Allow heated components to cool to room temperature before you service them.

Prerequisites

  1. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as a lab coat, safety glasses, and chemical resistant gloves.
  2. Turn off liquid flow from the LC (or other sample introduction device), as applicable.

Procedure

  1. Open the Tune application and select System Standby to place the MS in Standby mode.
  2. Wait approximately 20 minutes until the API source housing and its components cool to room temperature.
  3. Disconnect the sample line from the metal grounding union (H-ESI mode) or the spray insert's sample inlet (APCI or APPI mode).
  4. Rotate the locking levers to the unlocked position.
  5. Carefully pull the API source away from the MS to remove it.
