Use the communications panel to connect the MS to the Ethernet switch or PC, the syringe pump, the divert/inject valve, and an external device. The communications panel is located in a recessed area on the right side of the MS (with respect to the front face view).
The following table describes the connections located on the communications panel.
Communications Panel Connections
Item | Description |
---|---|
Ethernet 1000 Base T | The gigabit Ethernet port provides a connection to an Ethernet switch or PC for communication between the data system computer. |
USB | Two USB ports provide a connection for the forepump, syringe pump and optional divert/inject valve. NOTE A USB splitter cable adapter is provided with the forepump. The adapter provides an additional USB connection. |
Analog Input | The Analog Input provides a connection for an external device, such as an LC instrument. Two analog channels (2V Max and 10V Max) connect to two separate 12-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADC) for on-demand conversion of the input voltage. For details on the pin-out connections, see Analog Input connector pin-out descriptions. |
Peripheral Control | The Peripheral Control provides a contact closure interface for an external device. For details on the pin-out connections, see Peripheral Control connector pin-out descriptions. |
Reset | When you briefly press the system reset button, the embedded processing system and digital circuitry reset, and the system software reloads from the data system computer. For more information about resetting the MS, see Reset the MS. IMPORTANT Pressing the reset button resets the instrument to the power-up state. Only press the reset button if the instrument does not respond to the control program on the data system computer or if you need to restart the instrument without turning off the Electronics switch. |
Analog Input Connector Pin-out Description
Pin | Label | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Chassis | Earth ground (for pins 3 and 4) |
2 | Not used | N/A |
3, 4 | 2V Max: + (positive, pin 3) and | Provides a connection for an external device, such as an LC instrument. An analog channel (2V Max) connection to a 12-bit ADC for on-demand conversion of the input voltage. Input: 0–2 Vdc (voltage clamps at 5 Vdc) |
5 | Chassis | Earth ground (for pins 7 and 8) |
6 | Not used | N/A |
7, 8 | 10V Max: + (positive, pin 7) and | Provides a connection for an external device, such as an LC instrument. An analog channel (10V Max) connection to a 12-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for on-demand conversion of the input voltage. Input: 0–10 Vdc (voltage clamps at 15 Vdc) |
Peripheral Control Connector Pin-out Description
Pin | Label | Description |
---|---|---|
1 | Ground | Earth ground |
2 | 5V | Provides a 5 Vdc, 500 mA output (with pin 1). |
3 | Not used | N/A |
4 | Start In | Receives the start signal from the contact closure connection of a connected external device. To activate this signal, the external device must pull the signal either low (below 0.75 Vdc) or high (above 2.4 Vdc), depending on the polarity, for at least 100 ms by using a relay, an open-collector driver, or a similar device that connects between pins 4 and 1. NOTE In the Thermo Foundation Instrument Configuration window, set the Input Contact Closure signal to Transition close-to-open or Transition open-to-close (depending on which one matches the setting for the connected device). |
5 | Ready Out | Provides a relay-driven programmable output signal to the connected external device. The relay opens when a method starts and closes when the method finishes. Output: Maximum 24 Vdc, 3 A |
6 | Injection Hold | Provides a relay-driven programmable output signal to the connected external device, such as a fraction collector. Output: Maximum 24 Vdc, 3 A |
7 | Not used | N/A |
8 | RO/IH | Common (return) connection for the Ready Out (RO) pin and Injection Hold (IH) pin. |
