NOTE
The password for the WebAPI Service is stored as an encrypted string and cannot be edited after installation.
- To change the password after the installation, repeat the installation process.
Before you install the WebAPI Service, you must decide what authentication mechanism the API shall use to connect to the Chromeleon CDS.
Select one of the three options:
- No login credentials – This option is available when User Mode is not enabled in the Chromeleon CDS. If you select this option, no login credentials are required to connect to the Chromeleon CDS.
- Single-user authentication is available when User Mode is enabled in the Chromeleon CDS. If you select this option, the WebAPI Service connects to the Chromeleon CDS using the username and password that you specify in the Authentication page of the SampleManager Chromeleon Link Web API Setup wizard. All SampleManager users have access to the specified Chromeleon CDS account, and all actions performed by users in the Chromeleon CDS are managed and audited using this shared account.
- Multiple-user authentication is available when User Mode is enabled in the Chromeleon CDS. If you select this option, the WebAPI Service connects to the Chromeleon CDS using the Chromeleon username specified in the SampleManager PERSONNEL record for the user currently logged in the SampleManager session. During setup, you must still specify a username and password. When the user performs a task that utilizes the WebAPI Service, they are prompted to enter their Chromeleon CDS password. A user can only perform actions in the Chromeleon CDS if their Chromeleon CDS user account has the required role and privileges. Additionally, all actions are recorded in the Chromeleon CDS along with the individual user account details for auditing purposes.
TIP
For more information about User Mode and security in the Chromeleon CDS, see the Chromeleon CDS documentation.
