Biological study factors are used when one of the following are true:

  • There are both technical and biological replicates in a run.
  • The study has a nested or paired design.

Biological study factors are sorted alphanumerically.

Procedure

  1. In the Study Factors area of the Study Definition page, select Add > Biological Replicate Factor.
  2. The biological replicate factor dialog box opens, and its title bar includes the default name of [new factor].
  3. Select [new factor] and enter a name for the new biological factor.
  4. In this example, the value is Replicate.
  5. In the box to the left of the Add and Delete buttons, enter the name of the first value, and then select Add.
  6. In this example, the value is Rat1.
  7. Continue adding values, for example, Rat2, Rat3, Rat4, and so on.
  8. Select Apply.
  9. (Optional) Repeat the steps above to add more factors.
