Categorical study factors are used for general sample names. Categorical study factors sort alphanumerically.

Procedure

  1. In the Study Factors area of the Study Definition page, select Add > Categorical Factor.
  2. The categorical factor dialog box opens, and its title bar includes the default name of [new factor].
  3. Select [new factor] and enter a name for the new categorical factor.
  4. In this example, the name used is Yeast Strain.
  5. NOTE

    If the full categorical box collapses, select Edit to restore it to its original size.

  6. In the box to the left of the Add and Delete buttons, enter the name of the first value, and then select Add.
  7. In this example, the value is Met6.
  8. In the same box, enter the name of the second value, and then select Add.
  9. In this example, the second value is His4.
  10. Repeat for each value.
  11. Select Apply.
  12. Confirm that the Study Definition page resembles the following image.
  13. (Optional) Repeat the steps above to add more factors.
