You can find a protein sequence or reference in an existing FASTA database file.

Procedure

  1. In the application menu bar, select Tools > FASTA Database Utilities.
  2. In the FASTA Database Utilities dialog box, select the Find Protein References tab.
  3. The Find Protein References page opens.

  5. Select the Browse button next to the FASTA Database box to locate the particular FASTA file.
  6. In the Please Select a FASTA Database dialog box, select the FASTA file, and then select Open.
  7. In the Search For box of the Find Protein References page, type an amino acid sequence or a protein reference search string.
  8. In the Search In area, do one of the following:
  9. Select the References option (the default) to search for a reference.
  10. Select the Sequences option to search for a sequence.
  11. You can further refine the results by using filters either before or after you run the search. For instructions, see Filter a protein reference search.
  12. In the Maximum Number of Matches Reported box, select the maximum number of references or sequences to report.
  13. Select Start Search.
  14. Results appear if the search parameters match the data.
  15. Select a protein row to see the amino acid sequences that constitute that protein.
  16. To suspend the search, select Stop Search.
  17. (Optional) To save a protein result row in another FASTA database, do the following:
  18. Select the protein row.
  19. Select Save/Add Selected to Database.
  20. Select the database in the Save/Add to FASTA File dialog box.
  21. Select Save.
