The Proteome Discoverer application generates many large temporary files—particularly when experiments involve label-free quantification and precursor ion quantification. To decrease wear on the C drive and to prevent filling the C drive with input raw data files and temporary results files, create a folder on another local drive to store the temporary files.

By default, the application stores temporary files in the directory:

C:\ProgramData\Thermo\Proteome Discoverer 3.1\Scratch

NOTE

If the C drive is smaller than 256 GB, create the Scratch folder in another drive.

If you create a folder with any name other than Scratch, the application creates a Scratch subfolder within your created folder.

Prerequisites

  1. You must have write access to the drive.

Procedure

  1. From the application menu bar, select Administration > Configuration.
  2. Under Server Settings, select Temporary Files.
  3. Select the browse button (...) next to the New Directory box.
  4. The Browse for Folder dialog box opens.
  5. Select the new location for the temporary files folder.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Select Apply.
  8. Restart the application.
