Bar charts plot categorical and ordinal data types in column charts that show the count of the data types as the column height. Although pie charts show the same data types as bar charts, percentage values in bar charts do not need to add up to 100 percent. This type of data display is especially useful for gene ontology annotations, because a protein is often assigned to more than one GO slim term; therefore, the fractions of the proteins assigned to the single GO slim terms do not add up to 100 percent.

The numerical data categories of the open results report that are available for the bar chart are listed in the Data Source selection box at the top of the Report Item Distribution view. The Options pane lists the different options that you can use to customize the bar chart. For information on these options, refer to the Parameters in the Bar Charts view Help topic. Pointing to the columns activates a tooltip with information about the data category.
