You can exclude individual entries from a FASTA file.
Procedure
- Select Tools > FASTA Database Utilities.
- In the FASTA Database Utilities dialog box, select the Compile FASTA Databasetab.
- In the Original box, do one of the following:
- Locate the FASTA database that contains the protein that you want to remove.
- Enter its path and name.
- In the Please Select a FASTA Database dialog box, select Open.
- In the Target box, do one of the following:
- Locate the output FASTA file.
- Enter its path and name.
- In the Save/Add to FASTA File dialog box, select the file, verify that the file extension is .fasta, and then select Save.
- Select the Ignore Case of References Strings checkbox.
- Select above the Step 1: String(s) to Include box.
- A line to specify the first set of conditions now appears in the box.
- Select the first line in the Select Operator column, and select Contains if it is not already selected.
NOTE
Leave the first line in the Condition column blank.
- Select above the Step 2: String(s) to Exclude From the Results of Step 1 box.
- A line to specify the first set of conditions now appears in the box.
- Select the first line in the Select Operator column, and select Contains.
- In the first line of the Condition column, enter the protein reference or sequence that you want to remove.
- Select Compile Database.
- The compiling process creates the target FASTA file that excludes protein entries that match the condition.
