Use the other workbench to hold the mass spectrometer, the LC, and any other LC/MS options. Make sure that this workbench can support the weight of the mass spectrometer (about 110 kg) plus the weight of any option (liquid chromatography, for example). The workbench must stand in a secure and level position.

If you intend to place the MS separately, use a workbench with minimum dimensions of 1 × 1 m (3 × 3 ft). Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends using a workbench with a width of 1.5 m (59 in.).

TIP

The usual placement of the LC system is to the left of the mass spectrometer. However, in the case of a Thermo Scientific EASY-nLC™ system, the optimal position of the LC system is in front of the mass spectrometer.

The data in following table are based on the space and load requirements for a Thermo Scientific Vanquish™ Neo system containing a system controller, pump, autosampler, display, and column compartment.

NOTE

Allow at least 116 cm (46 in.) of vertical height for the stack with the pump, autosampler, detector, column compartment, solvent platform, and standard 1 L solvent bottles. This height provision allows sufficient access to the 1 L solvent bottles in the solvent platform. If you plan to use larger solvent containers, use a location with more vertical space.
