Clean the bent flatapole when you clean the quadrupole. You can remove the bent flatapole after you have removed the quadrupole.

Procedure

  1. Loosen the two 4 mm hex screws that attach the metal retainer to the side wall of the analyzer chamber. Do not loosen the screws more than ½ turn. The screws remain in the analyzer chamber.

  3. Remove the retainer and put it on a clean, lint-free surface.
  4. Slide the complete assembly straight toward the rear side of the instrument until the metal holder of the exit lens has cleared the separation.
  5. Lift up the assembly until the bent flatapole is clear of the analyzer chamber. Put it on a clean, lint-free surface.

  3. Bend one spring in the direction of the exit lens and lift it until it clears the washer.
  4. Lifting the spring
  5. Lift the spring until it clears the window „lip“ in the center of the front window and rotate it away from the bent flatapole.
  6. Freeing the spring
  7. Repeat the procedure on the other side and remove the window.

  9. Wipe the window with a lint-free wipe soaked in a 50:50 isopropanol/water solution.
  10. After removing both the window and the exit lens (see page 7), the bent flatapole can be purged with nitrogen gas (see page 9).

Remove the bent flatapole exit lens

Procedure

  1. Grab the two latches at the other side of the assembly with your fingers. Pull them out slightly and turn them in opposite directions to release the metal lens and the insulator behind it. Be careful with the little holder pins below the latches.
  2. Releasing the bent flatapole exit lens
  3. Grab the exit lens and pull it away from the holder. Do not cause damage to the two metal cylinders (neutral collectors) that are attached to the other side of the lens. See Remove the bent flatapole. Put the lens on a clean, lint-free surface. The white insulator rings will stay in place.
  4. Bent flatapole holder and exit lens
