Procedure

1. With the accessory compartment open, loosen the two 3 mm hex screws in the accessories cabinet that connect the top cover to the instrument frame. See Prepare the instrument.
2. Lift the top cover straight up. Store the cover in a safe place.

3. The hinged lid of the analyzer chamber is visible. It is recommended to clean the surface at the right side of the lid with a clean lint-free tissue.
4. Grab the handle rail on the right side of the lid and pull it upwards. The analyzer chamber opens. Open the lid all the way (>90°) until it rests on the hinges.

5. Put on a new pair of lint- and powder-free gloves.

6. NOTICE

   The interior of the analyzer chamber must stay free of any contamination. Make sure that the chamber is open only when you do work on the components inside. The other times it should stay closed. When you lean over the analyzer chamber, make sure that no particles or fibers from your clothing fall into it. We recommend that you wear the bouffant cap that is shipped with the performance maintenance kit.

6. Loosen the four 3 mm hex screws in the corners of the quadrupole holder. See red circles in Remove the quadrupole. The screws should be moving freely by a few millimeters, but remain in the holder. (The other four hex screws hold the EMC bracket on the quadrupole holder.)
7. Grab the quadrupole (preferably with both hands) and lift it straight up. If it does not move freely, make sure that none of the screws is still catching on the threads below.

8. NOTICE

   Do not to bump the ends of the quadrupole on any adjacent parts.

8. Put the quadrupole gently into the holder that comes with the cleaning kit. For the instructions about cleaning the quadrupole, see Clean the quadrupole.
