As with all chromatography systems, tubing length and i.d. should be kept to a minimum to avoid unnecessary peak broadening. Thermo Scientific Dionex provides 0.010" i.d. 1/16" o.d. PEEK tubing for all eluent lines (P/N 42690), and 1/16" i.d., 1/8" o.d. tubing for regenerant input lines (P/N 40793). Regenerant exits from the Dionex ERD 500 via a 1/4 i.d. flexible tube terminating in the waste gas separator (P/N 059184) provided in the Dionex RFC-10/ERD 500 ShipKit (P/N 059091).
The volume of the ED cell reference electrode chamber, the Dionex ERD 500 and associated tubing to the eluent outlet of the Dionex ERD 500 will be approximately 175 µL. The 0.010" i.d. eluent tubing adds about 0.5 µL/cm (l.29 µL/inch) to the system volume, after detection.
A 24" length of 0.010" i.d. tubing between the Dionex ERD 500 eluent outlet and the fraction collector will add ~31 µL to the delay volume. The resulting 206 µL total delay volume would result in a 12–13 second delay between detection and collection at 1.0 mL/min.
