Because HPAEC/PAD carbohydrate detection requires high pH (~12–13), post-detection neutralization is often needed for subsequent saccharide characterization. Separations performed at different NaOH and NaOAc concentrations are expected to require different regeneration conditions.

However, use of 150 mM TFA as regenerant, and application at the maximum Dionex RFC-10 Controller current (500 mA for 4 mm or 125 mA for 2 mm) will desalt up to 0.35 M Na+, at up to 1.0 mL/min for 4 mm or 0.25 mL/min for 2 mm eluent flow; adequate for most applications.
