Procedure

  1. Remove the any tubing connections on the analytical pump head that connect to the transducer.
  2. Use a size 6 hexagon wrench to loosen and remove the large, metal analytical pump head screw on the left side of the analytical pump. Save the screw for reuse.
  3. NOTE

While loosening screws, support the analytical pump head with your hand.

  4. Disassemble the analytical pump head.
  5. Remove the pistons from the analytical pump head; replace the pistons as needed.
  6. Remove the rear seal plate.
  7. Remove the black seal wash bodies.
  8. Remove the white support rings (see Figure 58) with the seal tool (P/N 22185-20210). Be careful, as the support rings tend to drop or fall and may become lost.
  9. NOTE

If the existing support rings are lost or damaged, you must order them separately. The Dionex Inuvion Preventive Maintenance Kit does not include support rings.

  12. Remove the orange high-pressure seals with the seal tool (P/N 22185-20210) included in the Ship Kit.

  15. Pipette a few drops of deionized water or isopropanol onto the edge in the analytical pump head.
  16. Adding deionized water or isopropanol onto the analytical pump head components

  17. Clean the white support rings, using deionized water or isopropanol, a cleaning swab, and a lint-free cloth or tissue.
  18. NOTE

Support rings are non-wearing parts, which means they are usually not replaced during preventive maintenance.

  19. Use the insertion tool to stack the piston seal and support ring in correct order:
  20. Correct assembly order: white support ring first, followed by the orange piston seal.
  21. Correct piston seal orientation: spring facing the analytical pump head away from the tool.

  25. Lubricate the seal with deionized water or isopropyl alcohol. Then, begin pushing the piston seal tool into the analytical pump head until it hits the bottom. Repeat this action for the other side.
  26. Inserting the piston seal with the piston seal tool

  27. Remove the piston seal tool from the analytical pump head; the piston seal and the support ring should remain in the analytical pump head.

  29. Reinstall the black seal wash bodies into analytical pump head, with the larger diameter hole facing up. Be sure the orientation is correct.

  36. Clean the plate with deionized water or isopropyl alcohol, and wipe it dry with a lint free tissue.
  37. Push the new rear seals into the holes of the rear seal plate.
  38. NOTE

Unlike the main piston seals, the yellow seal wash seals have no correct orientation, and may be installed facing either direction.

  42. Soak a clean, lint-free wipe with isopropyl alcohol and wipe both pistons (P/N 222185-98202). Check each piston surface for scratches or contamination and replace, if necessary.
  43. Finish reassembling the analytical pump head by rotating and pushing both pistons into the analytical pump head until they hit the bottom.
