CAUTION

The Dionex EGC contains one of the following: a corrosive base (KOH), a corrosive acid (MSA), or a concentrated K2CO3 solution. Wear protective eyewear and gloves when handling the cartridge.

Procedure

  1. Remove the new Dionex EGC from the shipping box.
  2. NOTE

Save the Dionex EGC shipping container; it may be required for storage or disposal of the cartridge.

  3. The Dionex EGC cable is attached to a vent fitting with a cable tie. Cut the cable tie to release the cable. Confirm that the 10-32 fitting plug in the vent opening is tightened. This prevents leakage during installation.
  4. Orient the Dionex EGC with the fittings facing up and remove the plugs from the INLET and OUTLET ports.
  5. Set the Dionex EGC in the service area on top of the Dionex Inuvion IC System. Orient the cartridge with the electrical cable toward the Dionex EGC holder.
  6. Connect the EGC IN line to the INLET port on the Dionex EGC.
  7. Locate the yellow 0.5 mL/min, 7 MPa (1000 psi) backpressure coil (P/N 053765) in the Dionex Inuvion IC System Ship Kit (P/N 064375).
  8. Connect one end of the backpressure coil to the OUTLET port on the Dionex EGC. Leave the other end of the coil unconnected.
  9. NOTE

This backpressure coil connection is temporary; it is used only during the Dionex EGC conditioning procedure.

  10. Turn the Dionex EGC over so the fittings face down. Shake the cartridge vigorously and tap it with the palm of your hand 10 to 15 times to dislodge all bubbles trapped in the eluent generation chamber.
  11. CAUTION

The Dionex EGC contains one of the following: a corrosive base (KOH), a corrosive acid (MSA), or a concentrated K2CO3 solution. Wear protective eyewear and gloves when handling the cartridge.

  12. Install the vent fitting in the vent opening of the Dionex EGC.
  13. Slide the Dionex EGC straight down onto the holder until it stops. Ensure the electrical cable and backpressure coil remain outside the holder.
  14. NOTE

To avoid crimping the lines inside the holder, do not twist the cartridge when sliding it into the holder. The lines are designed to coil neatly inside the holder.

  15. Remove the plug from the EGC connector on the Dionex Inuvion IC System top cover.
  16. Orient the black 4-pin electrical cable connector for the Dionex EGC. Push the cable connector onto the EGC connector on the Dionex Inuvion IC System top cover. Twist the ring on the cable connector finger-tight to secure it.
  17. Remove the plug from the Dionex EGC vent opening and connect the cartridge VENT line.
  18. CAUTION

Failure to remove the vent plug before beginning operation with the Dionex EGC will allow an excessive buildup of electrolysis gas, which can result in an explosion.
