Chromeleon 7.3.2 allows you to select a database schema version when you create a new data vault or update an existing data vault. By default, a clean installation of Chromeleon 7.3.2 without an older version of Chromeleon 7 installed will create a standard local data vault using the latest schema version with performance improvements. This latest 7.3.2 database schema version is incompatible with Chromeleon versions older than 7.3.2.
If you install Chromeleon 7.3.2 on a computer with an older version of Chromeleon 7 already installed, the automatic upgrade that runs as part of post installation process will upgrade your standard data vaults but not the multi-user data vaults.
An automatic upgrade will upgrade the schemas of the standard data vaults to the latest compatible schema version.
You can decide to upgrade the database schema of your data vaults at any time.
When you upgrade your data vault schema, you must select the appropriate data vault schema version.
- Latest schema version with performance improvements (Not compatible with Chromeleon versions prior to 7.3.2) – This data vault schema improves performance, but it is incompatible with Chromeleon versions older than 7.3.2.
- Latest 7.3.1 compatible Database schema – This data vault schema is compatible with older versions of Chromeleon. If your data vault already uses this schema, you will only be able to upgrade to the latest Chromeleon data vault schema, which is incompatible with Chromeleon versions older than 7.3.2.
CAUTION
Backward incompatibility of the latest database schema version
When you upgrade the database schema of a data vault, previous versions of Chromeleon clients might not be able to read from or write to the upgraded data vault, based on the database schema version you select. The latest 7.3.2 schema version is not compatible with Chromeleon versions older than 7.3.2.
It is not possible to go back to a previous database schema once the schema upgrade is in progress!
CAUTION
The effect of the database schema upgrade on data integrity
Do not use a data vault while its database schema is being upgraded. Using the data vault while a database schema upgrade is in progress might compromise the data’s integrity.
If you cancel a database schema upgrade in progress, you will need to perform the schema upgrade again and complete it before using the data vault in production.
