Some Windows 10 builds provide the option Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support under Control Panel > Region > Administrative > Change system locale.

When the checkbox is selected, Windows uses codepage 65001 (Unicode UTF-8) instead of the local codepage like Windows-1252 (Western Latin1 or ANSI) for all plain text files. This enables text files created in one locale, for example, Russian, to be read in other locales such as Western or Central Europe.

This setting causes an error during the Chromeleon installation. The Installation Qualification Report shows an error when the following registry keys are set to the value 65001:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current\ControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage - ACP
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current\ControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage - MACCP
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current\ControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage - OEMCP

To resolve this error, clear the Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support checkbox.
