Mass-only sequences are useful when you want the application to identify detected components (such as known impurities) with a known mass or formula in an intact mass analysis experiment.

Procedure

  1. Open the Sequence Manager by selecting Sequence Manager on the BioPharma Finder home page.
  2. Select New Oligonucleotide to the right of the sequence table.
  3. The Oligonucleotide Sequence Editor opens with the Manual Input Sequence pane expanded.
  4. In the Name box, type the name of the oligonucleotide sequence.
  5. In the Category drop-down list, select Intact Deconvolution.
  6. Sequence Information pane input for a formula-only oligonucleotide sequence
Sequence Information pane input for a formula-only oligonucleotide sequence
  7. Do one of the following:
  8. To create a formula-only sequence, enter the chemical formula of the sequence in the Formula box, and then select Apply.
  9. The application automatically calculates the monoisotopic mass and average mass of the sequence from the user-specified formula.
  10. While entering the formula, the limit for both Monoisotopic Mass and Average Mass is 999999999 for each element.
  11. If you enter anything larger than 999999999 for each element, the application displays an error message that it is an unsupported element
  12. To create a mass-only sequence, enter the monoisotopic mass and the average mass of the sequence in the respective boxes.
  13. The Apply button is not available for a mass-only sequence.
  14. Save the sequence.
  15. See Save an oligonucleotide sequence.
  16. The application adds the saved sequence to the table on the Sequence Manager page and appears as a sequence option of the Intact Mass Analysis page.

NOTE

You cannot assign variable modifications to a mass-only or formula-only sequence.
