With this method, the application determines the time range for the noise of a chromatogram using the peak width at 50% of the peak height (time span) and a multiply factor (n).
Depending on the country, Pharmacopeia S/N uses two different multiply factors for determining peak width at half height:
- For European Pharmacopoeia (S/N EP) or Japan Pharmacopoeia (S/N JP) pharmacopeia S/N calculations, the time span multiply factor is 20.
- For a United States Pharmacopoeia (S/N USP) pharmacopeia S/N calculation, the time span multiply factor is 5.
